City League Update – April 11, 2016

Men’s City League Update

Overall last weekend we saw some great results from our City teams, with City 5, 6, 7 all flying high at or near the top of their respective ladders.

City 2

Centenary Stormers 1

 Toowong 3

Having only recently joined the division, City 2 have a number of games in hand over their opponents and will no doubt be in the mix after leading current top of ladder Toowong 1-0 with an early goal to Brandon Pope before going down 3-1 on Friday.

Ladder Position – 9th

City 5

Mt Gravatt Hawks 1

Centenary Stormers 3

City 5 traveled to Dittmer Park and came up against a hungry Mt Gravatt outfit. Our Stormers converted a penalty after 10 mins to lead 1-0 and had the majority of possession throughout the half. With 5 mins to go in the first half, the Mt Gravatt side equalized with a header at the back post from their tall timber.
In the second half our boys came out strong and saw the return of captain Chris Ridgley from injury, who popped up with an assist to give Shaun Edwards his 2nd goal of the evening. Chris was on the end of two very questionable offside calls which could have seen him be on the score sheet also.
Late in the second half Shaun Edwards completed his hat trick with a deft chip over the ‘keeper and putting the icing on the 3-1 win.
 Ladder Position – 1st

Centenary Stormers 4

Souths United 1

City 6 have had a stellar start to the season, and a busy preseason training schedule implemented by new manager David Macdonald it is no surprise to see them flying high this early in the season, with 4 wins from 4.

Souths United were no match as the Stormers swept outside their opposition with a hat trick to Jonathan Demartini and goal to Bruce Curtis.

Ladder Position – 1st

City 7

Capalaba Bulldogs 2

Centenary Stormers 3

A new team at the Stormers this year, and already off to a great start, leapfrogging Capalaba with a 3-2 victory after being tied at 2-2 a piece at halftime. Goals to Shaun Beaton, Sam Makeham and Ethan Baldwin saw City 7 return to Atthows with 3 points in the bag. Currently in 2nd and trailing Clairvaux (who they were unlucky to draw with last weekend) by 3 points with a game in hand, they face a struggling Teviot Downs side who will be looking to reverse their early season form.

Ladder Position – 2nd
